McGill University

Andreas Warburton is a professor at McGill University, where he also serves as Building Director for the Department of Physics, overseeing facilities management and infrastructure operations. A collider experimental physicist specializing in beauty quark flavour physics, he searches for physics beyond the Standard Model through the Belle II experiment at Japan’s SuperKEKB matter-antimatter accelerator. His career spans international collaborations at Fermilab, Cornell University, and CERN, where he contributed to the CDF, CLEO, and ATLAS experiments.

Born in British Columbia, Dr. Warburton holds degrees from the University of Victoria and the University of Toronto. He brings governance and leadership experience to SNOLAB, having chaired the Speakers Committee of the ATLAS collaboration and served on the Belle II Speakers Committee. His additional leadership roles include serving as Director of Student Affairs for the Canadian Association of Physicists and as a founding board member of Raah Health and Development Canada.

Dr. Warburton has also contributed to the strategic development of Canada’s subatomic physics community. As a Scientific Councillor for the Institute of Particle Physics (IPP) from 2005 to 2008 and co-author of the 2017-2021 NSERC Subatomic Physics Long Range Plan, he helped strengthen the integration of SNOLAB experiments within Canada’s national research strategy. From 2016 to 2020, he served as President of the IPP Board of Trustees, overseeing the organization’s transition to charitable status. During his tenure, he introduced a competency matrix embodying diversity principles, which achieved gender parity on the board and secured the appointment of the board’s first non-IPP member.
