Last week fifteen undergraduate students wrapped up their fall work term at SNOLAB by participating in the Student Talk Competition, where they presented on topics ranging from experiment calibration to radon analysis at SNOLAB.
The SNOLAB Student Talk competition provides an opportunity for students to practice presentation skills with peers and colleagues in a supportive environment as well as share their work with the SNOLAB community.
“It is always so wonderful to see what students accomplish in their work terms at SNOLAB”, said head judge, Dr. Christine Kraus, “They all did very well in the presentations and answering challenging questions – it makes the job of the judges all the more challenging. It is so important for students to develop these skills – no matter where their paths will lead them”
A special congratulations to the winners of this term’s competition who stood out for their clear, well-delivered talks and excellent responses to audience questions.
First place: Samuel Quinteiro Perez, 2nd year, University of Waterloo
Second place: Brittany Boos, recent graduate, University of Alberta
Third place: Ayesha Iqbal, 3rd year, University of Calgary
Honourable Mentions: Mario Buffone (University of Ottawa), Vraj Patel (University of Waterloo), and Justin Suys (University of Ottawa)
Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the Student Talk Competition! We wish you all the best with the next steps in your education and hope to see some of you back here in another term or perhaps in another stage of your careers.
