SNOLAB expands project management group

August 29, 2025 — Facility Updates

SNOLAB, the world’s deepest underground clean lab, has added to its project management capability.

Melina Ralph, Paul Grylls, and Tristan Hillier have transitioned into their full-time project manager positions, joining Markus Bertels, Dave Hawkins, and Genna Howard as project managers serving SNOLAB’s science collaborations.

Ralph, formerly a project coordinator, has been acting in the PM group for several months. Grylls and Hillier are transitioning from their roles as project engineers at SNOLAB.

Each of them brings valuable project experience, technical insight, exceptional skills, and dedication to the Project Management Office, says PMO group manager Mehwish Obaid.

“Having already worked closely with many of us, Paul, Tristan, and Melina are well-positioned to continue driving success at SNOLAB,” Obaid said.

These moves are part of SNOLAB’s ongoing commitment to providing the best possible service to the large, international experiment groups hosted at SNOLAB. As Canada’s only underground research facility, SNOLAB offers cutting-edge facilities and world-leading expertise that evolve to meet the changing scientific demands of top international researchers.

These moves are also testament to SNOLAB’s commitment to training the skilled workers that are powering Ontario’s and Canada’s economy, collectively known as Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP). In its relatively short history, SNOLAB has provided close to 2,000 HQP with hands-on experience and learning in SNOLAB-supported projects who are then able to apply this knowledge to future positions in academia, industry, and public service.

SNOLAB has a reputation as a training ground for Ontario’s scientists, technicians, and tradespeople, a made-in-Ontario solution to creating the workforce of the future.
