(SUDBURY) — One of North America’s most popular television and YouTube educational series paid a visit to SNOLAB recently to learn about solar neutrinos, and the people who research them.

Mission Unstoppable with Miranda Cosgrove sent field correspondent Nabeel Muscatwalla to accompany SNOLAB senior research scientist Dr. Erica Caden underground to learn more about the lab and the elusive subatomic particles she has dedicated her professional life studying.

From her school days in the Philadelphia suburbs studying the physics of rollercoasters to her journey 2 km underground to study neutrino properties, Caden’s story offers a powerful reminder that careers in science can take people to unexpected places.

“One of my favourite parts of my job is building community and mentorship opportunities and supporting women in science at all stages of their careers,” Caden says. “Find someone of whom you can ask questions, bounce ideas off, and guide you through new situations. Then, when you have some experience, be that mentor to a younger scientist.”
