Dr. Art McDonald, was honoured with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers.
The Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers are a diverse group of professionals devoted to their community, with the motto, service above self. The Paul Harris Award acknowledges outstanding contributions to significant humanitarian efforts.
Dr. McDonald was recognized for his neutrino research that has changed the field of modern particle physics. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2015 jointly with Takaaki Kajita for the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which shows that neutrinos have mass. This defies the Standard Model of the universe and has provided direction for future particle physics.
Dr. McDonald was presented with the award by Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers president Kris Cacciotti at Bryston’s-on-the-Park in Copper Cliff on Thursday, June 13, 2019.
