Dark Matter Day PIR Live Webcast

October 17, 2018 — Events

What keeps galaxies from pulling themselves apart as they spin through the universe at mind-boggling speeds? How is it that the universe is expanding at an ever increasing rate?

Just in time for Dark Matter Day, join us as we dive 2 km below the earth’s surface to SNOLAB where scientists are attempting to measure the elusive dark matter particle. Dr. Chris Jillings, SNOLAB Research Scientist and Adjunct Professor of Physics at Laurentian University will be our guide as we learn how to detect this particle that does not interact with light.

Join the webinar and tune in to ask your questions and get answers LIVE! Questions can be submitted live within the webinar window or emailed in advance. This webinar is intended for grades 9-12 and the duration will be approximately 30 minutes.

The Partners in Research (PIR) Live Event program engages classrooms across Canada in dynamic online webinars about a range of topics, introducing students to Canadian researchers, professionals, and facilities. To date, this program has reached classrooms in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland & Labrador, and Nova Scotia to bring Canadian STEM into the classroom.
