Saturday, February 11th is the 8th annual UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGIS). The day recognizes that a gender gap persists at all levels of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) all over the world. Even though there has been progress towards narrowing the gap, women and girls are still under-represented. On December 20th, 2013, the UN General Assembly recognized that “full and equal access to and participation in science, technology and innovation for women and girls of all ages is imperative for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls”.
