Dark Matter

The MiniCLEAN dark matter experiment used 500 kg of liquid argon or neon to search dark matter in the form of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). The detector used 92 sensitive photodetectors to look for flashes of light from WIMPs hitting the liquid. Through careful assembly, choice of very clean materials, and the use of water, argon, and acrylic as shielding, the detector minimized background signals. MiniCLEAN began operating at SNOLAB in 2013 and began decommissioning in 2019.
