The DEAP collaboration constructed DEAP-1 as a prototype for DEAP-3600. It was built at Queen’s university and operated there first before being shipped to SNOLAB. DEAP-1 ran at SNOLAB from 2007-2011. The main purpose of DEAP-1 was to demonstrate the power of pulse shape discrimination (a key component of how DEAP-3600 operates) to help suppress background interference in collected data.
