SNOLAB Project Update, May 22, 2004

An Experiment Advisory Committee (EAC) has been formed and  a Request for Letters of Interest was made on 26 January 2004 followed by a workshop discussing the experimental infrastructure required for possible experiments May 12-14th.  The summary of that workshop and talks presented at it can be found here

The design of the underground excavations is complete and detailed design of the laboratory infrastructure under way.  Excavation is expected to begin in the fall of 2004 and be completed in 2006.  Space for experiments is expected to become available in early 2007.  Excavation will be done in two phases.  The first phase will include a large new experimental hall, a network of smaller laboratory areas and the associated support spaces.  A second excavation phase will permit the addition of another large experimental cavity if need and funding permits at a future  date.
