April 4, 2008: Government of Canada Announces
Funding for Cryopit
Sudbury, Ontario, April 4,
2008 — The Government of Canada is
continuing to support worldclass research and innovation in Northern
Ontario by investing in the Cryopit, a new underground research
facility to be located adjacent to the existing SNOLAB. The Cryopit
will help to broaden the research capacity of the SNOLAB, which is
dedicated to the study of astroparticle physics.
The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for
FedNor, today underlined the Government of Canada’s commitment to
science and technology by announcing an investment of $6.1 million in
the Cryopit. Of the total, the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
will provide $5.6 million to support infrastructure costs, while an
additional $500,000 in FedNor funding is earmarked for facility
expansion and equipment purchases.
