Cleaner Positions at SNOLAB

SNOLAB is a large underground clean laboratory situated in Lively Ontario on the 6800 foot level of the Vale Creighton Mine. The lab is currently undergoing a large expansion to support state of the art international astroparticle physics research.

We have immediate openings for responsible and energetic people to join us for one-year temporary positions as Lab Cleaners.

Candidates should possess a high school education, a strong work ethic, and experience in institutional cleaning. Experience and skills in the following list will be considered assets: area cleaning, using automated floor machines, laundry, monitoring stock of cleaning supplies, ordering supplies, light custodial maintenance, changing filters, recycling, clean-room requirements, shipping and receiving, assessing cleanliness, following procedures, planning cleaning tasks. To meet operational needs, some shift work may be required.

Salary range is from $ 24,711.00 to $ 28,463.00, including an attractive benefits package.

This position is subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory Institute and the United Steelworkers.

Safety Officer

The SNOLAB research facility has an immediate opening for a Safety Officer. SNOLAB is Canada's new international facility for world-class research in astroparticle physics. Originally home to the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, SNOLAB has an expanding programme in astroparticle physics and underground science, including dark matter and neutrino studies. Located in a clean room 2km deep underground in Sudbury Ontario, with a suite of surface facilities and laboratories, SNOLAB is currently preparing for this next generation of experiments. This position is based in Sudbury, with an expectation of travel to other sites for discussion with regulatory agencies, University safety groups and experimental teams.
SNOLAB is in the process of developing an experimental programme involving process chemical systems, cryogenics and vacuum systems, high voltage and other hazardous materials which will be sited in the underground laboratory. The Safety Officer will be responsible for the enhancement and maintenance of the SNOLAB safety programme. In addition to devising procedures for the safe operation of the facility, the Safety Officer will work with the experiment scientists to develop safety programmes specific to the unique experiments being conducted at SNOLAB. The officer will ensure regulatory compliance, lead hazard reviews and develop safety and training programmes. The successful candidate should have a degree in physical sciences or engineering, or have several years experience in the health and safety field within a research or physical sciences/engineering setting. Underground experience is considered an
asset.
