HALO is covered by a layer of 1 cubic foot boxes containing water and polystyrene beads. Both of these materials contain a significant amount of hydrogen, and therefor protons. Neutrons are easily scattered by impacts with protons, reducing the energy of these neutrons and therefore shielding the detector. This gallery contains pictures from the process of filling and sealing these boxes.
