HALO will use approximately 80 tonnes of pure lead ingots from the decommissioning of the Deep River Cosmic Ray Station. Lead is a designated substance and is legislated through the Ontario Ministry of Labour, regulation 843 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Due to the health hazards associated with lead it was necessary that the ingots be covered for worker safety.
From April 27 2009 and June 5 2009 forty-nine pallets of Pb blocks were transported to snolab, painted and prepared for underground transport.
